Welcome to Namtumbo District Council Website

Namtumbo District council is one of the five (5) districts within the Ruvuma Region. It lays Western part of Songea District Council, on the southern part it borders with Peoples Republic of Mozambique and on its Eastern part it borders with Liwale District (Lindi region) and Tunduru District Council. On North-East it borders with Ulanga District Council (Morogoro Region).

As part of the Local Government Reform Program, Namtumbo District Council was established as an autonomous body by the Government Notice No. 366 On 1st January, 2006 issued by the Minister responsible for Local Government & Regional Administration. The autonomous local government system aims to improve the quality of services provided to the people.

Namtumbo district has been among Local authorities participated in Local Government Reform Program (LGRP) up to phase 8 when the program ended/stopped. The major purpose of the LGRP in Tanzania was to improve quality of service delivery to the public with the focus to good governance, restructuring of local government authorities, financial management, human resources planning and management as well as Legal services.
